What is a Purifier and Why Do You Need It?
A purifier is an ultraviolet (UVC) light system that gets installed in the cold air return duct of your furnace and
irradiates the return air with powerful ultraviolet light.
UVC kills bacteria, viruses and mold. It also deactivates viruses, spores, and volatile organic chemicals
from your carpets, drapes, floors and household cleaners.
How Does It Work?
Your furnace circulates air throughout your home. On cool days the circulated air is heated. Cool air along with
airborne dust particles, mold spores, bacteria and viruses are returned to the furnace through the cold air return duct.
As the airflows past the UVC light it is irradiated. The UVC light kills some of the biological contaminants. The air then
travels through the filter, where dust and contaminants are trapped. With each pass through the duct, more contaminants are
killed and the air in the home becomes cleaner. For those residents that suffer from allergies or asthma, the lowered levels
of airborne contaminants allow their immune system to recover and often result in reduced usage of inhalers and other medications.
Does the Purifier Remove All Airborn Contaminants?
A purifier will lower the level of bacteria, viruses, mold spores and VOCs, allowing the immune systems of sensitive people
to recover. This reduces allergy and asthma symptoms. Since the home is not a closed system there will always be a certain level
of airborne biological contaminants (eg. spores continually introduced from the outdoors through open windows, doors and incoming
guests and pets).
Does the Purifier Require Maintenance?
The UV bulb should be replaced yearly. It should be wiped clean when your furnace filter is changed. For service and maintenance
of your purifier, please contact our Customer Support Center.
