Dryer Vent Cleaning |
|
Why Do You Need to Clean Your Dryer Vent Regularly?
Dryer vents should be cleaned in order to increase the airflow through your dryer. By cleaning your dryer vent regularly,
you prevent it from plugging up and reduce the amount of time required for clothes drying.
Build-ups in the dryer vent reduce airflow and can cause overheating of your dryer. It makes the dryer
run a hotter, more intensive cycle, which significantly shortens its life span. It also can result in higher
electric bills and potentially cause a dryer vent fire.
What Are the Signs of a Plugged Dryer Vent?
- It takes a long time to dry your clothing
- Clothing is hotter than usual at the end of the drying cycle
- Flapper on outside vent hood does not open when dryer is on
- Dryer keeps shutting off early, before the timer ends it's drying cycle
What Can You Do to Prevent Dryer Vent Plugs?
- Clean the lint filter regularly after each load of clothes
- Check the outside exhaust to make sure exhaust air is escaping normally
- Check the exhaust duct for lint traps more often if you have a plastic flexible duct
- Inspect the duct for kinks, crushed sections, or plugs, which can greatly reduce the airflow
- Have your dryer vent cleaned regularly by professionals
